Zunächst einmal wird bei der Quelle auf das Los Alamos National Laboratory als Urheber der Bilder verwiesen. Aufgrund des amerikanischen Gesetzes, dass alle Veröffentlichungen von amerikanischen Regierungsorganisationen in der Public Domain veröffentlich werden müssen ist also davon auszugehen, dass dieses Bild tatsächlich PD ist.

Auf den Seiten des Los Alamos National Laboratory war das Bild jedoch nicht zu finden. Jedoch fand sich ein Hinweis, dass mehrere Bilder und ein Video der Vela-Satelliten in ihrer Medienbibliothek auf Videoband auf Anfrage verfügbar sind:
