Spalax, Spalacidae familyasının, Spalacinae (kör fareler) alt familyasından bir kemirgen cinsidir. Nannospalax ile birlikte, Spalacinae alt familyasının var olan iki cinsinden biridir.[2]
Bu cinsin türleri Doğu Avrupa ve Batı ve Orta Asya'da bulunur.[3] Tamamen kördürler ve yer altında yaşarlar.[4]
